Simon Nicholas English, b. 1954
Simon Nicholas lives and works in London and Oslo. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Pollock Krasner Foundation in 1999, and several stipends from the Norwegian Artists Union (NBK) from 1994 to 2012, and a working grant from the Arts Council of Norway from 2015 to 2021. He received an exhibition grant from the British Council in 1993, a travel grant to New York in 1994 from NBK, and subsequently a residency at the Circolo Scandinavo in Rome in 1996. He studied at Bath Academy of Art (1973-74) and at the painting school of Camberwell School of Art in London, 1974-1977 (BA Fine Art). He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul with a grant from the Turkish Government (1978-79). He received a grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working in the Artists Studio at Ekely (1986-87) and used Edvard Munch´s studio (available to artists living at Ekely) in 1989-91. He has held regular solo shows in the UK, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden and the US (in New York in 2008 and San Francisco in 2019) from 1986 to 2021.
