Julian Opie is an internationally-recognized English artist whose simple, graphic style is instantly recognizable to viewers around the world. His work is influenced by the imagery of contemporary advertisements, Japanese woodblock prints, and animation, among other contemporary and historical references.
Opie depicts urban life through colourful, dynamic, and elegantly simplified forms. He often draws on the everyday symbols that surround us in the city, including traffic signs and advertisements. The dynamic, multicoloured crowds of Running or Walking People are one of his most iconic motifs.
