Teresa Casuso, Cuban Press Secretary and Castro's representative to the UN until her resignation and defection in 1960.

Schatzberg recalls that Castro was surrounded by women who served as ambassadors of public relations and administrative staff for the new government. He described an almost jovial atmosphere amongst Castro and his revolutionaries, who are seen smiling and laughing with one another in many of his photographs.
